Harvin by a mile and a half!! One guy produces top5 finishes. The other produces hype without substance (and lots of gold jewelry).

It pains me to say it as a Viking fan but I'll take Dez by a nose. Harvin is amazing and is used in a variety of ways but he simply doesn't have the prototypical size and consequently the upside that Dez has. Dez has a much higher chance of being a red zone target and is going to be a beast. It's just a matter of time.

Harvin is already a known top5 guy at the age of 23 with no competition for targets. Dez has an upside that is what Harvin is now...but he'll never get there sharing targets with Austin and Witten......and by the time those guys move on then so will Romo and he's stuck with a rookie QB This is one you have to stop and think about instead of just going with the hype.

Ha, as a Cowboys fan, I'd take Harvin. His physical ability along with attention to detail (route running) plus no lack for targets makes this easy for me.
Dez has warrior like ability, but that's where it ends. Then add in the knucklehead factor?

Dez has "not live up to the hype" written all over him.

Just being devil's advocate here, but it used to be that WR's broke out in that magical 3rd year. It's been 2nd and now 1st of late, but.........Dez has a chance to be HUGE. I still take Harvin though. lol

The problem is Calvin will most likely be #1 for a while. Other great WR's (Welker, Nicks, Fitz, AJG, etc) will be in that top 5 mix. Even if Dez does go HUGE ...he ends up right where Harvin is now (top5 in scoring). There's just no reason to take a chance when you can have the sure thing IMHO.

I would draft Dez ahead of Harvin every time in a new start up......so I guess that means I'll take Dez in this debate too.

I think Harvin is a nice WR...especially in ppr and he would be my choice in redraft, but Dez has the physical tools to be elite. Sorry...maybe the group think consensus on this board is Harvin....but I wouldn't hesitate to take Dez.

I'm still trying to track down what this "Elite" means. If it means "top5 WR" then Harvin is already there. If it means "Top1 WR" then his name is Calvin.

Harvin wasn't a top 5 WR in my leagues but I'm sure he was in some. I don't see him as a top 5 WR. Even if he was last year I wouldn't see him staying there because his game is not one based on consistency. He got a lot of targets/carries last year because he was the teams only playmaker in the passing game. Don't get me wrong he's an awesome talent and I absolutely love the guy as a Vikings fan so I would love to be proven wrong here. If he was the habitual top 5 WR you're saying he is then I agree with your side of the debate.
My thoughts are that Harvin will never be a red zone target. He isn't a go up and get it type of guy. He is used in a lot of different ways (out of the backfield, slot, outside, etc) and is a dynamic playmaker but he is not your prototypical WR1. Dez is and will be that guy IMO. Sure he hasn't done it yet but I'm not ready to write him off because of his elite physical tools.
Also remember that things can change fast. The Vikes could draft Blackmon or another solid WR in the 2nd. Rudolph should emerge. All of a sudden Harvin isn't quite the target hog that he has been. I like Harvin a lot but his value last year was tied to him being the only playmaker on that team more than anything else. It won't stay that way forever.
