Which back would you rather have in a ppr league? I like Ingram and think he could be a future top 10 back, but so could Tate. Is it worth giving up Tate and a pick in the 1st round next year that "should" be in the back half of the draft to obtain Ingram?

I'm just not very impressed with Tate (and I'm a Tate owner in multiple leagues). He's clearly the backup for the Texans and Foster isn't going anywhere after the new contract. Tate does ok in that ZBS but I feel he would struggle in any other system.
I'm still high on Ingram and am trying to get him cheep in leagues. Targeting 2013 for his breakout year much like Mathews will have this year.
I'd personally do a trade like that to get Ingram.

Tate/2013 1.r for Ingram is fair value for both
NO likes the RBBC and has a plethera of RBs, while Tate is limited behind Foster - Not sure I'd give up a solid flex player (Tate) and a future 1.r for Ingram - but I would certainly take it.

They are both a few years away from being unleashed, so this is about right. Personal preference IMO. Ingram will have the better numbers in the short term.

I actually do like Tate. He has shown to have a good skill set, he's just not as good as foster. I like Ingram here though. Ingram's skill set is better than Tate's as well, but like Jaysports says, it will be a year or two for both of them

Man, this one is close.
One one hand you have Tate, who has no value unless Foster gets hurt, (which is always a possibility given his injury history). If Foster goes down, Tate is a top 5 RB, but will he get this opportunity?
On the other hand you have Ingram, who by any measure, was a disappointment last year, but is still talented. His main problems are the emergence of Sproles and the presence of P. Thomas. Will Thomas get traded, opening up opportunity for Ingram? Thomas has a very cap friendly contract, so it's a possibility, but if he doesn't get traded, the RB situation in NO continues to be muddy.
While the low #1 pick does have value, I don't think it's so valuable that it would sway the decision.
I actually think I would stick with Tate and keep the #1. IF Tate gets his opportunity, he will be a feature, top 5 RB and his value would be far greater than Ingram's given that he will have to share the backfield with Sproles at the very least. If Tate doesn't get his opportunity, then you rolled the dice and they came up snake eyes, but I'd still opt for the supreme upside.
