Not sure how not signing a cheap ass restricted tender makes him a diva. He complete his contract in good faith. He is now not under contract. If he comes back and signs the tender he's making chump change. Worse, if he plays for that change and gets hurt, his future earnings go down the toilet. He's doing the smart and prudent thing here. I'd honestly sit out till week 8 to decrease the chance of injury then play out the final 8 if I were him.
Pitt needs to get off their fat asses and either sign him to a REAL deal or trade him for picks/players. They are idiots if they think sitting around doing nothing will fix this problem.

I hate the franchise tag, how is that fair to the players. Yes, siding with the Millionaires and not the billionaires on this one. If they've completed their contract and obligations, how can you keep players from making their money that they are due?!? They should have the chance to earn fair market value for their worth. If they eliminated the tag then teams would almost be forced to renegotiate the previous year which isn't a bad thing. It could be like basketball where we would see some big trade before the trade deadline if the player makes it know he won't be back. Could make the NFL more exciting if that's even possible.

Jay...he's not "franchised" If he were, I'd side with the owners because Wallace would be a fool to turn down 9.4 Million to play for one year.
The problems is Wallace was claimed as a "restricted free agent". The team only has to offer a pittance (2.7) for the year. As someone who just finished their rookie contract without complaint (take notes Deshaun Jackson) it's a truly crappy thing to do to great player and member of your team.
Thus my point he should stay clear of football till he's signed to a real contract. If he gets hurt now playing for nothing, he stands to lose 60+ million over his remaining serviceable years

The dude, could have been less of a baby about it or just held out, but I still agreed on the premise. Its BS

I'm not sure what they'll get for him. It doesn't look like any other team wants to offer their 1st round pick to sign him. While the Steelers have a top notch FO, I don't see them handing out big contracts, would let someone walk over it and replace them in the draft.

Reposting:
The Tribune-Review reports if the Steelers want to keep WR Mike Wallace, there’s nothing he can do to prevent that. However, he can try to force the Steelers’ hand to either pay him or trade him. And that’s exactly what he and his representatives are doing. Less than 24 hours after a league source said that a handful of teams are interested in trading for Wallace leading up the NFL draft scheduled for two weeks from today, news leaked that Wallace doesn’t intend on showing up to any of the Steelers’ offseason activities in protest of his first-round tender. It isn’t by coincidence that the news was leaked that Wallace doesn’t plan to sign his restricted free agent tender by the April 20 deadline only weeks before the draft, it is strategy. Even though Bus Cook's plan of planting information that his client would be a major player in the restricted free agent market this year because of the new CBA rule that requires only a first-round p ick as compensation rather than a first and a third backfired, that doesn’t mean this tactic won’t. There was no way that any team would give up a first-round pick for Wallace along with signing him to a lucrative long-term contract on the RFA market, and that became apparent early on. However, it is very attractive to teams to try to get Wallace via a trade because it would definitely command less than a first-round pick it would’ve cost them on the RFA market. Also, it is very attractive for Wallace to go to a team that is willing to pay him the excess of $10 million per season he is demanding. But, of course, it takes two teams to trade, and floating it out there at the absolute right time that Wallace doesn’t plan to attend offseason workouts during a year that the team hires a new offensive coordinator should perk up the ears of all the Steelers’ decision-makers.
